This is a tad embarrassing, but coming from a lower middle class family and having to almost fully put myself through undergrad and law school, I have racked up a significant amount of credit card debt. I barely make my monthly payment and cannot seem to save any money. My question is if anyone has used those companies that claim to reduce your debt and if so what was the result? thank you.

Over the past years and due to certain circumstances, we have a lot of credit card debt – approx. 50,000. I have never looked into a second mortage but in researching debt reduction I have seen it as an option. Should we get a second mortgage to pay off these debts? What type of interest can I expect on a 2nd mortgage with average but not great credit. I am drowning here and and clueless as to what to do – I am beginning to read Dave Ramsey’s book as well as Scott Bilkers in hopes of finding answers. Thanks!

I have $10,000 in credit card debt, and found some resourceful information on the blog with some good links, and I am wondering if anyone has some more.

What are my chances of settling at a lower amount? With over 25% in interest the amount is over $8000. What would be a good target for negotiation? Also the lawfirm involved is about 4 hours away from the court location. If They don’t show up, can this be dismissed?
